Purist, rare and highly sought after by collectors
The Porsche 964RS The 964 RS is among the most sought-after air-cooled 911 models ever and is considered one of the last uncompromisingly purist 911s for true drivers. Unlike the "regular" 964 Carrera, the RS was conceived as a dedicated lightweight and motorsport variant: less weight, significantly more direct handling, and a noticeably more focused tuning of the chassis, steering, and drivetrain. Comfort features were deliberately reduced to create the most unfiltered, analog driving experience possible – precise, raw, and fascinatingly honest. It is precisely this combination of rarity, RS specification, and driving dynamics that makes the 964 RS a staple in high-end collections today and one of the most coveted "driver's cars" of its era.
Matching numbers, 3.8-liter engine conversion and bare-metal restoration
The Porsche 964 RS offered here is an exceptionally well-maintained and high-quality restored example with a clearly documented history. The car was delivered in Germany in 1992 and has a documented total mileage of 133.703 km. Of particular note is that it is a matching-numbers car with its original engine, and its history is largely traceable.
The engine was completely rebuilt in 1999 and, as part of this overhaul, its displacement was increased to 3,8 liters. At the time of the engine rebuild, the vehicle had approximately 100.000 km on the odometer, meaning the engine has only covered about 33.000 km since the rebuild. This results in a very attractive overall picture, combining a documented vehicle history with a technically sound engine base.
Another key milestone in its history is the comprehensive, two-year complete restoration at AP Car Design in Göttingen, at a specialist workshop for classic Porsches well-known in the Porsche scene. The occasion was a previous racetrack accident, which was used as an opportunity to completely and professionally rebuild the vehicle. The Porsche 964 RS was disassembled down to bare metal and then entirely rebuilt.. In addition to the complete rebuild of the body, the following work was carried out/parts were replaced: new carpet, new headliner, new windows all around, reupholstering of seats, dashboard, center console, steering wheel, gearshift knob, replacement of lights, reflectors and turn signals, axle overhaul including dry ice blasting of axle components and control arms, as well as replacement of bearings and suspension components. The work was completed in 2016; since its completion, the vehicle has covered less than 1.000 km and has primarily been part of a collection. Extensive photographic documentation of the restoration, as well as the invoice from AP Car Design, are available and underscore the traceability and quality of this restoration.
Visually, the RS presents itself in a very harmonious, authentic configuration: The vehicle retains its original exterior color and features the original equipment, including the RS seats. Overall, this is a Porsche 964 RS that combines the rare qualities of genuine RS components, extensive documentation, professional restoration, and an attractive technical setup.
