Last weekend was the 2nd race of the Spezial Tourenwagen Trophy 2016 at the Sachsenring. Not only the STT, also the ADAC GT Masters, ADAC Formel 4 and ADAC TCR Germany had some races there.
Free practice started on Friday morning and a 3rd place was satisfying. In the afternoon the first session of Qualifying took place and a 2nd place was the result, so I started in the front row. One day later, the Qualifying for the second race was announced and another 3rd place was a good point of departure.
Now it’s getting serious: The first race at the Sachsenring started and due to my great starting position I focussed on the podium. After the first lap the leader already had an incident so I took over the lead and expanded the gap to the second. I also managed to get the fastest lap in my Division. From the 2nd half of the race my follower started to close up the gap and an awesome fight began. I was able to hold the lead for a long time but in the first corner after the start/finish straight I was getting mugged. I tried to outbrake him in the next couple of corners but because of the worn tyres I was at the limit. Until the last corner it was a fascinating and also really fair fight between the leader and me. In the end it was a 2nd pace for me and my teammate finished in 3rd after starting form the back of the field which makes the race for the whole team successful.
The weekend went to the end on Sunday and for the STT the journey of the second race started at 2pm: After the successful race on Saturday my expectations were high to finish on the podium again.
After a pretty bad start I lost some positions but I recovered fast. While the second one overtook somebody he got a puncture and had to retire into the pit lane. I gained his position but due to the old tyres it was getting harder and harder to hold the racing line. Although I finished in 2nd place again which makes it a nearly perfect weekend for our team.
